Ring Sizing & Ring Shank Replacement

Ringsizing and ring shank replacement is when the shank of the ring (the part of a ring that rests below the finger and touches the main part of the design on top) is either made smaller or larger by cutting away the shank (shrinking) or fitting in a new section of metal (enlargement). We will know exactly how much to either cut away or fit in so that your ring fits you better after the process has been completed.

Special Ring Alterations for big Knuckles

At some point in life it can happen that your knuckles become rather large and that the ring does not fit over the knuckle or is very loose on the finger and spins wildly. We have several solutions for this condition. We can install some sizing beads or a springs insert or in extreme cases we can recommend installing the “Superfit” ring shank which can be opened and allows you to have a snug ring behind your knuckle.

Stone Setting and Tightening

Whether you have new gemstones to be set in a piece of jewelry, or if already set stones are coming loose, you need to a jeweler to either set or tighten your gemstones. At Elie Design we can place your selected gemstones into an existing piece, craft a new setting for your existing stones, or tighten the already set gems so that they fit snugly and do not come loose.

Stone Replacement

When a gemstone is lost, weathered or chipped, a stone replacement allows you to keep your cherished jewelry without having to replace the entire piece. We can remove damaged stones and set replacements without compromising the remaining elements, and with decades of experience we can help with the selection of stones to match and compliment any jewelry.

Soldering

Soldering is joining metal parts together by using another metal that has a lower melting temperature than the parts being joined. There are two types of soldering – hard soldering (which applies more towards silver and gold pieces) and soft soldering (which is a tin-based solder and is used more for costume jewelry). Whether for repairs, chain shortening or lengthening, or clasp replacement, for any fine jewelry both types of work require an exceptionally delicate touch, to make any work invisible and preserve the beauty of the piece; and with decades of experience and the finest equipment on hand in our workshop, Elie Design is perfectly placed to handle this detailed work.

Laser Welding

This process uses a laser to join common alloys into one, or to correct manufacturing defects, or for small repairs. The laser’s fine point makes it possible for us to make minute changes to jewelry in order for it to look its best – even for fashion jewelry and stainless steel items, and even for the most delicate repairs.  Repairs on Platinum jewelry which normally require a very high heat with the torch can now safely be performed with our laser without having to remove the stones. The laser is also perfect to perform repairs on jewelry that contains very heat sensitive gemstones.

Pearl Hand Knotting

If the string of a pearl necklace is broken or worn the pearls are taken out one by one and are put on a new string. A careful knotting process ensures the perfect spacing and allows the string to drape without any unevenness. And as with all of our repairs, at Elie Jewelry we perform this work by hand here in our workshop.

Engraving

Engraving is the process of cutting a design or text into metal, and is used to add detail or personalisation to jewelry. Whether you want to add names or dates or initials to a piece, or engrave new visual detail, or amend or expand on an existing engraving, we have a range of state-of-the-art tools and decades of experience in exactly this work.

Jewelry Cleaning and Polishing

Depending on the materials and manufacture of a piece of jewelry, correct cleaning might require specific chemicals, a simple wash and dip in water and soap, or polishing. Here at Elie Jewelry we can inspect your jewelry and advise on exactly what cleaning and polishing is appropriate; and if this requires specialist equipment then we can handle that work in our fully equipped workshop.

Rhodium Plating

Rhodium plating, also known as rhodium dip, is a process where white gold jewelry is plated to preserve and protect its shine. Rhodium is a rare, silver-white hard metal and as an inert or noble metal is resistant to corrosion and oxidation in moist air unlike most metals, which will oxidise and rust, thus increasing the resistance of any jewelry it plates. We can restore the luster and protect the sheen of many pieces with this technique, and can advise on whether it would be suitable in each case.

Whether you are need a simple repair or complex recreation, whether this is amending a modern piece or restoring a family heirloom, we can return your treasured jewelry to perfect condition. To discuss how we can help with your repair or restoration, phone, visit or email us today.
